What is the weather like at Cairnryan?
The weather in Scotland does not differ that much from England although Scotland is a bit more cloudy. The sunniest places in Scotland include Ayrshire, Lothians, Angus and Fife, and the least sunniest is for the mountains in the Highland region. The average sunshine hours are at their maximum in May and June and the least in December and January. Because of the high latitude the winter days are very short but are compensated with long summers days with only 5 hours of “almost darkness”.
Like most of Scotland, the climate of Cairnryan is also subject to the moderating influences of the Gulf Stream. Temperate winters and cool summers are typical, and extreme seasonal variations are rare. On the west coast of Scotland, where the moderating effects of the Gulf Stream are strongest, conditions are somewhat milder than in the east. The average January temperature of the eastern coastal region is 3°C, and the average January temperature of the western coastal region is 4°C; General July Temperatures are 14°C and 15°C. The average January and July temperatures for the town of Turnberry are 4°C and 15°C.
